Welcome to Amesbury Rugby Club!

About us

Thank you for taking an interest in Amesbury Rugby Club – a club born in 2017 out of a love for the game and a shared desire to create a local, welcoming space for people to come together through rugby. Since then, we’ve grown into something far greater than just a rugby team – we’ve become a rugby family. At Amesbury RFC, we believe in the power of sport to support health and wellbeing, build friendships, and strengthen community bonds. Whether you want to play, cheer from the side-lines, or simply enjoy the social side of club life, there’s a place for everyone here.

Our club provides a collective sense of belonging. A place to go, whether it be for fun, to talk, get fit or just be around like minded people, our club offers this and a whole lot more.

Looking to the future

Potential Growth

As we look ahead, we’re excited about the potential to grow, expand our age groups and do even more for our community. However, our ambitions are currently limited by a lack of investment in local sports facilities and playing space in the town.

Project Legacy

Finding a new home

A recent opportunity has emerged at the Boscombe Down site, and we are actively seeking to engage with Amesbury Town Council to explore how it could become our long-term home.

We recognise there are challenges to navigate in establishing the most appropriate operating model for all stakeholders involved. However, we hope that the Wiltshire Playing Pitch Strategy — which is designed to assess current and future needs for playing fields and provide a strategic framework for planning outdoor sports facilities — will be given the consideration it deserves.

The bottom line is we need more playing space and appropriate clubhouse facilities to ensure the club remains sustainable.

We believe there’s a shared vision between the town’s key sports clubs on how Boscombe Down, alongside Centenary Park, could be best utilised for the benefit of all. Sadly, discussions with the town council have not yet progressed, but we remain hopeful that collaboration will prevail.

One of our key ambitions is to expand our youth section and bring more boys and girls from local schools into the sport. The potential of a  refurbished all-weather pitch could open up more opportunities – not just for rugby, but for a wider range of sports. Of course, such a development would require practical infrastructure like car parking and changing rooms, but with a positive, collaborative approach, we believe a solution can be found.

Beyond rugby, we see the club becoming a hub for community life – hosting events such as the Amesbury Fete and offering space to other community groups who may be struggling to find a home. With investment in a modest clubhouse including bar and catering facilities, we could finally welcome visiting teams as warmly as we’re welcomed elsewhere – something our players, members, and town deserve.

Across Dorset & Wilts, many rugby clubs have facilities that serve their members and communities proudly. We want the same for Amesbury – a place our town can be proud of, and a foundation on which the next generation of players, supporters, and volunteers can thrive.

Community & Inclusivity at Our Core

We are proud to be a part of the Amesbury Community and are committed to creating a welcoming environment for all. Our doors are open to everyone, regardless of age, ability, or experience. Whether you're a seasoned player, new to the game, or just looking for a way to stay active, you'll find your place here. Our offerings range from competitive rugby for both men and women to Walking Rugby for the over 40s, as well as our rapidly growing minis and juniors sections. And we’re not stopping there—plans are in the works to expand our programs, including more opportunities for girls’ rugby as soon as we can.

More Than Just Rugby

Amesbury RFC is about more than just what happens on the pitch. We offer something for everyone. Whether you're pulling on the club playing strip, helping out on match day, or cheering from the sidelines, your involvement is what makes our club special.

Recognising Our
Volunteers

We understand that our club thrives thanks to the hard work and dedication of our volunteers. They are the backbone of everything we do, from coaching and organising matches to managing events and supporting our members. We celebrate and appreciate each and every volunteer who gives their time and energy to make Amesbury RFC the welcoming, inclusive, and fun place it is.
