Governance & Management Overview
Amesbury Rugby Club is run in line with a clear and democratic governance model that ensures accountability & transparency. Full details are contained in the Club Rules.
Here's an overview of how it works:
Legal Status
The Club operates as Amesbury Rugby Club Limited, a company limited by guarantee (Company No. 11443140), affiliated with the Rugby Football Union, Dorset & Wilts RFU, and the Referees Society.

Membership

Open to all who support the club’s ethos.

Various membership types (e.g., playing, social, volunteer, junior) with voting rights granted to most categories (excluding social-only and under 18s).

One elected Club Member acts as the Club Nominee Member to represent the wider membership at Company level.
Annual General Meeting (AGM)

Held each year before 15th July.

All paid members can attend, vote, and propose motions. If you have not paid a membership you are not able to attend the AGM

Key decisions: Elect Executive Officers, approve finances, set membership fees, and vote on proposed changes

These roles form the Executive Committee, which governs the club’s strategic direction, financial decisions, policies, and discipline matters.

Senior Management Team (Appointed by Executive Committee)
Includes roles such as:

Discipline, Sponsorship, Membership, Fixtures, Grants, Merchandising, and Facilities Managers

Plus any others deemed necessary
These team members oversee specific operational areas and may chair subcommittees to help deliver club activities.

Committee Meetings

Aim: At least 10 Executive Committee meetings per year.

Quorum: Minimum of 4 members.

Decisions by majority vote (Chair has casting vote if needed).

Finances, policy, appointments, and member conduct are key discussion points.
Financial Oversight

Financial year: June–May.

Club Treasurer leads day-to-day financial management.

Major expenditures over £500 require committee approval; over £5,000 require member approval at a General Meeting.
Discipline & Conduct

A dedicated Disciplinary Panel manages issues of member behaviour.

Clear appeal process is available through the Management Committee.

All members are expected to uphold the values and reputation of the Club and its governing bodies.
